One Night at MAMAKA by Ovolo

Our Art Director, Claire-Ellen recently spent a couple of months working remotely from Bali. What an incredible opportunity and adventure for her (and I'm not jealous at all!).

She ventured all over Bali and out to the islands, stayed with old friends, new friends and in different villas and airbnbs, ending her trip in style with a night at MAMAKA by Ovolo - lucky duck!

I sat down and chatted with her about what her experience was like.

So Claire-Ellen, tell me - what was the hotel like?

It was incredible. Beautifully decorated in quite a retro style - pops of yellows and teals with bespoke black and white photography throughout. A real rock-n-roll feel, but also elevated and minimal. I loved it!

There was a rooftop pool and cocktail bar, and downstairs you could eat breakfast at the bar and sign up for boxing, yoga, or surf lessons, which are all included with the stay. So good!

What was your room like? How was it decorated?

My room was beautiful. It was similar to the rest of the hotel, retro pops of yellows and teals, plush interiors but with modern furniture and technology. It was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy Kuta streets.

What was the food like?

It was delicious! On arrival, I received a complimentary cocktail called Land Of God which was made of ginger-infused arak, lime, frangipani, and candied ginger - OMG it was so good! Also complimentary in the room was a beautiful package of chocolate fondants and sweets. Such a nice touch!

After travelling for so long I decided to treat myself and ordered room service for dinner. I chose the triple-cooked wedges with parmesan, truffle oil, and beef bacon, as well as the ox tongue nasi goreng. Service was fantastic and quick to come. In the morning I had Soto Ayam for breakfast (which is a local delight of shredded chicken, vermicelli, boiled egg, and turmeric broth). YUM!

What were your overall thoughts about staying there?

It was a really beautiful stay, really calm. You're situated right in front of the beach, in Kuta, so it is really easy access to get around. The hotel had all the facilities you needed - a home away from home - gym, gym classes, surf classes, pool, two bars and located right in the centre of all the action. The rooms are really spacious and beautiful, and the bathtub was an added extra with bath salts and oils included.

So would you recommend?

10/10! I would absolutely recommend MAMAKA by Ovolo to anyone. It's perfect for families and would make an incredible wedding venue. In fact, I learnt when I was staying there that they offer a one-stop solution to all wedding planning needs - this can be anything from your hens party, ceremony and reception itself, and/or your afterparty. I'm definitely telling all my engaged friends!

Thanks so much, Claire-Ellen.
