FIVE WAYS TO CELEBRATE NOVEMBER 5TH IN ETHICAL STYLE
Here at TLSE, we strongly believe in the ethical treatment of all animals. So if you're like us and you're looking for something else to do in lieu of Melbourne Cup, here are some equally glamorous things you can do instead.
1. Say Nup to the Cup!
Awareness of the controversies surrounding horse racing is increasing and there are now a number of Nup to the Cup! events hosted across Australia you can attend to help raise money for our animals. These events allow you to celebrate the day in style without supporting questionable practices.
Fashuns on the Field is a free event hosted by Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses and Tenfingerz at Newmarket Reserve opposite Flemington racecourse celebrating fashion and sport. Tattoo studio, La Belle, will also be hosting a flash day for anti animal cruelty art tattoos - no bookings required, just pop in on the day!
Sydneysiders are welcome to join Yellow for a classy luncheon in Potts Point with a Vegan 5-course tasting menu, cocktails and fundraising raffles. Each ticket includes a $3 donation Coalition for The Protection of Racehorses. Tickets can be purchased through here.
A list of other Nup to the Cup! events can be found here.
2. Host your own Dinner Party
It's not too late to host your own Nup To The Cup! fancy dinner party with loved friends and family. Why not take this opportunity to give some of our favourite summer recipes a go?
Start off with some homemade taramasalata and white bean skordalia or scrumptious salmon rillettes.
For main, go for our pumpkin gnocchi with radicchio and thyme oil or our heirloom tomato frittata for something a little heartier, with herb roasted vegetables as a cheeky little side.
Finish off with some individually served tiramisu that is absolutely to die for and you've got yourself a perfect night with great company and even better food.
3. Embark on a Coastal Walk
If you're lucky enough to have the day off, why not head to the nearest beach to enjoy some of Australia's natural coastal wonders? Immerse yourself in the scenic harbour and ocean views by wandering along the coast of our pristine beaches; there's nothing more refreshing than breathing in the fresh sea air.
Some of our favourite walks include the Manly to Spit coastal trek and the Bondi and Coogee walk (furry four-legged friends welcome too!).
4. Discover Japan Supernatural with the Art Gallery of NSW
Explore Japanese folklore and fantasy in AGNSW's upcoming November exhibition, featuring more than 180 works from artists including Japan's most influential ukiyo-e master Katsushika Hokusai and contemporary superstar Takashi Murakami, who has collaborated with Louis Vuitton.
A departure from the usual Picasso, Matisse, Monet and Cézanne, the exhibition promises an immersive experience with the phenomenal beings, goblins and shapeshifters of Japanese legend - a curation of some of the finest Japanese art from the last 300 years.
The exhibition is open from the 2nd of November until the 8th of March 2020. You can get your tickets here.
5. Support an Animal Rescue Organisation
One of the best ways to help out our horses is to support the wonderful organisations that are dedicated to raising money and awareness towards the ethical treatment of our animals. Every little bit counts; whether you decide to host your own fundraising event, sponsor an animal, donate your time to volunteer or even just take a little time out of your day to educate yourself about the cause.
Our actions have the power to enact real change within the industry
