Q&A with Garlands

Curious to learn more about Garlands? We hit Ferdinando with a few rapid-fire questions, see his answers below!

How and when did you get started in the floral industry?

2002, it started from a life change which lead to a career change. My long-term relationship came to an end, and it propelled me to change my life. I have never looked back since.

What attracted you to flowers?

I have always had a passion for nature and flowers from an early age. So, starting a career in floristry was only natural.

What are some of the biggest challenges facing the floral industry?

- Working with budgets

- Low margins

- It's a very competitive industry

- Long hours

On the highlight of your career and the Garlands business to date…?

Working on large, memorable events in Sydney … from Launching French Champagne, to awards nights, to a bank institution's 200th year anniversary night. As well, the opportunity to work with well-known designers, stylists, models and event organisers. I love creating a mood for a shoot or particular space depending on the brief.

And of course…what is your favourite flower, and why?

White Magnolia– I love it's lemon fragrance. It's beauty is in the moment … due to its short life span.
