DIGITAL FASHION WEEK: HAUTE COUTURE
Everything being transferred online has definitely been a side effect of Covid, so it's not surprising that this month saw the digitisation of both the F/W 20/21 haute couture collections and the S/S 21 menswear shows in London, Paris and Milan. If you're a fan of anything couture or fashion week related, this is calling your name!
Famous fashion journalist and critic Jessica Michault has got you covered with the ins and outs of online FW, exploring each designer's approach to connecting with a virtual audience to create an experience that is still visceral. Working directly with the Feseration Francaise de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM), Michault interviewed a bunch of inspirational designers, including Iris van Herpen and Olivier Theyskens, about how they were able to translate and telegraph to the online invitees their couture universe in a way that was both inclusive and elevated. From in depth one-on-one Instagram Live Chats with other couture designers like Julie de Libran, Rahul Mishra, Rabih Kayrouz, Alexis Mabille, Stephane Rolland, Yuima Nakazato, Ronald van der Kemp, Imane Ayissi and Edouard Vermeulen, the designer behind Natan Couture all the way to proper interviews with designers Kevin Germanier and Gabriella Cortese (founders of Antik Batik) and Hollywood's Rebecca Todd - Michault's weekly Fashion Your Seatbelt podcast has got all bases covered.
Michault interviews Iris Van Herpen on her FW21 Haute Couture presentation and the challenges she had to face to develop it in pandemic times. Jessica and Iris have a fascinating exchange over Iris’s conceptual and experimental take on Couture, and her incorporation of cutting-edge technology to traditional craftsmanship.
