5 MINUTES WITH DI - CONTENT EXTRORDINAIRE
What’s the first thing you did this morning?
Yoga. Can’t live without it for the best holistic approach to my physical and mental wellbeing. Iyengar is my jam and I do a specific set of yoga poses every morning specific to loosen, lengthen and limber up, then a more comprehensive online class a couple of evenings each week. I always come away from my mat feeling more grounded, yet taller!
What’s your star sign and what three traits of that sign that you feel you emulate most?
Aquarius.
Empathic; I’m a people person and have always focused on the who, rather than the why of things.
Creative; Content writing is what I do for a living, but I’m also a florist and interior decorator so you’ll never have a conversation with me that doesn’t involve style, colour and design in some way.
Open-minded; I’m a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of gal and am at my best when I’m “in the moment.” It means I’m a great team player and open to anything, but means I sometimes get distracted!!
What political issue are you most passionate about?
Eradicating single use plastic in households. Ready to take the next step after shopping bags, I’ve been inspired by my friend Lottie Dalziel who runs Banish to reduce my own household waste and be more aware of how much plastic has snuck into my life. Now I’m always looking for ways to swap plastic for a more sustainable alternative, which could be as simple as a natural dish brush or shampoo bar instead of plastic bottles.
What are 3 things you can’t live without?
My family, my friends and great food. The best times are when I can combine all three!
Name one country you’d love to visit?
Spain. The colours, the culture, history, architecture, food and wine all create an incredible drawcard for me.
What’s something you’re proud to say you overcame?
Over the last twelve months I’ve done a lot of work on recalibrating my work/life balance to reduce my hours and stress, by making the switch to freelancing to achieve a better, more workable arrangement.
What has been your most memorable TLSE moment?
Team headshot day. What a piece of cake compared to my last one! Ever inspiring, super-stylist Heidi puts everyone at ease and really worked her magic to capture images to communicate the essence of TLSE in action. It was great to see it all unfold in her own business and gave me a real insight into how she works so well with TLSE brands to help them find their messaging.
What’s a piece of advice you would have given to your past self?
"No-one else is doing it perfectly either." Like many of us I definitely overthink things and can be a bit of a perfectionist. Rather than let opportunities pass me by whilst I work to make things just right, I’ve learned how to keep moving forward.
What do you think the key is to writing an article that people really engage with?
Constantly asking yourself, "What's in it for the reader?" It’s important to know your audience and keep checking in with their sensibilities as the article progresses.
What’s the best thing about coming into TLSE on Tuesdays?
The welcome - everyone is so sunny and warm and inclusive. The funky warehouse/studio/pink mural vibe doesn’t hurt either…!
